DisneyQuest closing to make room for NBA Experience at Disney Springs

Postby HostDave » Tue Jun 30, 2015 6:15 pm

DisneyQuest, the indoor interactive theme park and arcade at Downtown Disney, is closing its doors for good sometime in 2016 to make way for the NBA Experience attraction and restaurant, Walt Disney World confirmed Tuesday.

The five-story building was home to interactive and virtual-reality video games and attractions, along with hands-on entertainment experiences.

Some Disney fans, however, have noted some of the larger virtual games have shown their age in recent years.

Even one of DisneyQuest's most recent additions, the "Fix-It Felix Jr." video game from the Disney animated film "Wreck-It Ralph," was designed to appear to be an aged arcade cabinet from the 1980s.

Disney has described the upcoming NBA Experience as an "expansive, one-of-a-kind destination" featuring "hands-on activities that put families and guests of all ages right in the middle of NBA game action."

"Guests will enjoy immersive NBA video productions and numerous interactive experiences, as well as a restaurant and a retail store," Disney said in a release in early June announcing the new addition to Disney Springs, the reimagined Downtown Disney set to be completed next year.
