Disney and Turner Partner for Theme Park and TV Deal

Postby HostDave » Wed Dec 03, 2014 5:02 pm

The Turner Classic Movies cable channel has partnered with The Walt Disney Company for a deal that aims to benefit both companies.

As first reported by the New York Times, TCM will help Disney make changes to the Great Movie Ride, an attraction at Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida; TCM will receive "presented by" credits on the attraction's posters and banners, provide a new introduction and more.

In exchange, Walt Disney Studios will provide TCM with vintage movies, cartoons, documentaries, and TV series episodes to be used in a periodic programming block on the cable channel under the banner of "Treasures From the Disney Vault."

This programming block will be offered by TCM "roughly four to five times a year." The first block will run from 8pm ET, Sunday December 21 through till 5:15am the next morning. It features items such as 1932 cartoon Santa's Workshop and 1954 theme park documentary The Disneyland Story, which features Mr. Walt Disney himself.

The changes to the Great Movie Ride, meanwhile, are scheduled to be introduced in the first quarter of 2015.
