Over 200 Chinese students set out on a journey this month for an international summer internship program in Orlando, Florida, United States, organized by Shanghai Disney Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. The internship program will provide a special opportunity for a group of Chinese university and college students to gain valuable tourism industry experience which could also lead to exciting career opportunities with Shanghai Disney Resort.
The students were selected by Shanghai Disney Resort and Walt Disney World Resort from 14 Chinese local universities and colleges. Each internship will last for two months and the students will be assigned a range of working opportunities from food and beverage, merchandise, to park operations at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. in the United States. After completing the internship program, the students will be included in a talent pool for front-line Cast Member roles at Shanghai Disney Resort to support the resort's opening.
"Disney has a long-standing international college program around the globe, and we are very excited to kick off our own summer internship program, which is specially designed to support the future operation of Shanghai Disney Resort," said Lara Tiam, Vice President, Human Resources at Shanghai Disney Resort. "By having various training and first-hand work experiences, we hope these young Chinese men and women will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to provide world-class services to our guests in the future. We also hope that programs such as these will help to support the overall growth and development of Shanghai's service industry."
The International College Program at Walt Disney World Resort offers participants a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn from one of the world's most innovative entertainment companies. By living and working at Walt Disney World Resort, students will take courses of study as they gain academic training at Walt Disney World Resort and learn directly from some of the most talented entertainment and guest service professionals in the industry. The program enables participants to expand their education, network with experts, and make lifelong connections with people from around the world.
The local Shanghai Disney Resort team continues to expand rapidly, and its management company and two owner companies just welcomed their 888th local Cast Member earlier this month which marks a significant recruitment milestone. As construction continues, the resort's management company is already beginning to make preparations for operational readiness, with recruitment and training as a key focus.
