Resort Ambassador and Disney VoluntEARS Teach Earth Day Values

To coincide with Earth Day on April 22, Shanghai Disney Resort’s first Ambassador Jennie Xu joined Disney VoluntEARS to lead a series of “FUN” environmental themed classes at Gonglu Primary School in Pudong District, near where Shanghai Disney Resort will be located. With support from local non-government organization “Shanghai Roots and Shoots,” over 400 local students learned a variety of environmental related skills including waste separation and recycling. These classes and hands-on experiments demonstrated the importance of environmental protection.
Cast Members at Shanghai Disney Resort participated in this event to celebrate Earth Month, a global initiative to encourage people to make decisions that have a positive impact on the environment we all share. Today’s inaugural environmental program is one of the key initiatives of Earth Month at Shanghai Disney Resort and will become part of the resort’s regular VoluntEARS program.
The event also marks the first official public appearance of Jennie Xu, the first Disney Ambassador of Shanghai Disney Resort. “I am so honored to be named the first Ambassador of Shanghai Disney Resort,” said Jennie. “I am excited that my first community event is to be a part of the Disney Earth Day celebration in order to share the importance of conservation with the community.”
During her two-year term from 2015 to 2016, Jennie will represent Cast Members of Shanghai Disney Resort and the goodwill of the community. She will also continue to lead VoluntEARS programs to present the resort’s commitment to local communities. Jennie previously served as the Learning and Development Specialist of Shanghai Disney Resort before she was selected as Disney Ambassador. She has recently celebrated her five-year anniversary with Disney.
The prestigious Disney Ambassador role dates back to 1964, when Walt Disney sought a representative for the 10th Anniversary of Disneyland Park in Anaheim, US in 1965. The legendary program continued to evolve in the last 50 years and has been introduced to Walt Disney parks and resorts around the world. Each Disney destination selects their own Disney Ambassador(s) from their Cast to serve as the emissary of goodwill, sharing the magic, inspiration, and optimism of Disney. The tradition is now introduced to Shanghai Disney Resort.
