Shanghai Disney Resort introduced Sun Li, Lang Lang and Yao Ming as Honorary Ambassadors today, kicking off the official 80- day countdown to Grand Opening Day of the first Disney resort in Mainland China. The three Honorary Ambassadors are renowned worldwide, and will be a part of the celebratory events leading up to Grand Opening Day on June 16, 2016. The Honorary Ambassadors share a passion and enthusiasm for Shanghai Disney Resort, and will invite guests from around the world to visit the resort and “Ignite the Magical Dream” within their hearts.

General Manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, Philippe Gas, made the historic introduction of Sun Li, Lang Lang and Yao Ming as Shanghai Disney Resort Honorary Ambassadors, and awarded each of the ambassadors with a “Storytellers” statue as a symbol of appreciation, respect and admiration for this notable new partnership. The design of the miniature statues was inspired by a landmark statue that will be found at Shanghai Disneyland, a bronze cast of Walt Disney alongside Mickey Mouse.

“I am very pleased and honored to be joined today by our three Honorary Ambassadors,” said Gas. “And we could not be more excited to begin our historic first days of operation when we will welcome guests from across Mainland China and around the world to a destination that is both authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese. A visit to Shanghai Disney Resort will be unlike any experience in the world and will demonstrate Disney’s relentless innovation, famous creativity, and legendary guest service.”

The three Honorary Ambassadors have many happy memories of their experiences at Disney Parks, and have expressed their excitement for the highly anticipated opening of the Shanghai Disney Resort.

Sun Li, the popular actress famous for her roles in high-quality dramas, and a Disney super fan, has said: “Shanghai Disney Resort will offer such a vast variety of experiences and attractions that families will be able to spend multiple days exploring all that awaits. I know that my family will create many cherished memories here.”

Lang Lang, an international pianist and United Nations Messenger of Peace, is known for his engaging and emotionally powerful performances. According to Lang Lang, “The magical storytelling and immersive experiences at Disney Parks and Resorts always offer something for all ages. They are truly impressive and I’m looking forward to witnessing all the world-class entertainment at Shanghai Disney Resort.”

Yao Ming, the famous basketball athlete who is active in philanthropy, looks forward to his first visit with these comments: “Disney Parks instills in everybody a feeling of pure joy and comfort. Being Shanghainese, I am happy and proud to have such a resort in our city, where people can experience an unforgettable time with family and friends, and share the love and happiness of Shanghai Disney Resort with the whole nation, and even the world.”

At the press conference, General Manager Gas and the three Honorary Ambassadors came together to push a Mickey Mouse-shaped button, signifying the official start of the 80-day countdown to Grand Opening Day. The 80-day countdown also kicked off ticket sales across the official Shanghai Disney Resort platforms, including the official website: www.shanghaidisneyresort.com and Reservation Service Center (Phone No. 400-180-0000 or 86-21-31580000). Guests are able to sense the magic and excitement as soon as they begin planning their trips to the new resort.

In the 80 days leading up to Grand Opening Day, Shanghai Disney Resort will host surprising and engaging visual experiences on an iconic LED screen on the Bund, a Shanghai landmark. Disney characters will randomly appear on the LED screen in an interactive guessing game in which consumers can participate.
