American Queen gains lavish luxury suites

American Queen is gaining four luxury suites that were created by combining four suites with four inside rooms and adding grand furnishings and new bathrooms.

'There is so much more demand for bigger suites than inside rooms,' said Ted Sykes, president and chief operating officer, American Queen Steamboat Co. The larger accommodations are suitable for families as well as luxury-minded customers, he added.

And they're already sold out for 2017.

In another change, American Queen's alfresco River Grill & Bar is being rebuilt to make it more functional and attractive, and next year the company may cover the entire deck area and install exhaust fans to allow grilling there.

The work on the largest paddlewheel steamboat ever built is taking place during American Queen's off-season lay-up.

Besides the improvements to American Queen, this year AQSC is introducing a third river vessel, American Duchess.
