At the American Queen Steamboat Company, we discovered a long time ago that just because something is comfortable but refined or elegant but not stuffy doesn’t mean it can’t also have great value. Making certain that each of our voyages is a tremendous value is one of the things we do best. We do it with many small but important extras ranging from complimentary wine and beer with lunch and dinner throughout the voyage, complimentary shore excursions in each port of call and complimentary espresso, cappuccino, bottled water and soda during your time aboard the American Queen or American Empress.
One of the biggest extras is the complimentary pre-cruise one-night hotel stay in your city of embarkation. We include breakfast, taxes, porterage and transfers to your riverboat as well as the wonderful peace of mind of arriving the day before your departure without worries about lost luggage or delayed flights causing you to miss your sailing.
Our embarkation cities are true jewels but so are our debarkation cities as well. We realized that many of our guests might enjoy the opportunity to extend their stay after their cruise and have created optional post-cruise two-night packages that allow our guests to explore each destination in depth. Pricing begins as low as $399 per guest, double occupancy and always includes transfers from the riverboat to your hotel, two full American-style breakfasts, an American Queen Steamboat Company representative available to answer any questions you might have, complimentary sightseeing tours and transfers from the hotel to the airport.
When the American Empress begins her 9-day Pacific Northwest cruises on the Columbia and Snake rivers between Portland, Oregon and Clarkston, Washington, we’ll also have available optional three-day, two-night post-cruise packages for those travelers who don’t want their vacation to end quite so soon.
On westbound voyages, the Rose City Stay features an exploration of surprising Portland, Oregon. Art and expression reign supreme in this Pacific Northwest City. During the three-day, two-night stay you can appreciate the uniqueness of Portland and the majesty of Mount St. Helens. Your accommodation, the 4-star Downtown Marriott, has everything to make your stay as relaxing as your voyage on the American Empress. Dotted throughout the city and in between the signature public art on the streets of Portland, are some of the country’s most picturesque gardens. You can enjoy the Waterfront Park, Lan Su Chinese Garden and the International Rose Test Garden. For a more urban experience, visit Powell’s City of Books, the Portland Art Museum or the Pittock Mansion sitting high atop the bluffs overlooking this distinctive city. Tours include a full day at Mount St. Helens and a morning walking tour of downtown Portland.
On eastbound voyages, the city of Spokane, Washington is just a short ride from Clarkston, Washington and is often called the Naturally Nice City as well as the Lilac City. Spokane blends the unmistakable beauty of the Pacific Northwest with urban sophistication. Take in the delights of this one time European trading post with an additional three days and two nights. Your accommodations at the 4-star historic Davenport Hotel are as memorable as your cruise on the American Empress. Explore Spokane Falls within Riverfront Park, the Spokane Public Market, one of the casinos, unbeatable shopping and some of the best wineries the Pacific Northwest has to offer. Included in your fare is a Spokane city tour, a morning walking tour, and tickets to the Looff Carousel and the Spokane Falls Chair Ride.
The American Queen’s voyages throughout the South and the Heartland also lend themselves to fascinating post-cruise optional packages. History comes alive in bustling river cities such as Memphis, our hometown, and New Orleans.
Our optional American Music City Stay in Memphis is a whirlwind of adventures. Music is the heart and soul of the city of Memphis and in three days and two nights you’ll get a healthy dose of what makes this city tick. Your downtown Sheraton Hotel is just a short trolley ride from Beale Street, home to such musical genres as rock and roll, jazz, soul and the blues. Visit the Rock and Soul Museum, Sun Studios and Gibson Guitar. Don’t forget to take a stroll through the historic Peabody Hotel to see the world-famous march of the ducks to and from their home in the hotel’s central lobby fountain. As part of your stay, you’ll receive a two-day Memphis Trolley Pass, admission to Sun Studios and the Rock and Soul Museum and, of course, the King’s Memphis Tour with Platinum Graceland Admission.
Choose the option of the Big Easy Stay in New Orleans and you’ll be happy you didn’t let your Mississippi River cruise end at the dock. Immerse yourself in Southern culture during your three-day, two-night stay. Unwind in the Astor Crowne Plaza Hotel located in the fabulous French Quarter which has everything you need to make your stay as fun as your voyage on the American Queen. Imagine being located just a short stroll from everything that makes New Orleans unforgettable such as the French Quarter, Bourbon Street, Jackson Square, Harrah’s Casino and the restaurants of the Central Business District. Admission to Mardi Gras World and the American Queen Steamboat Company’s exclusive Highlights of Katrina Rebuilding Tour are also included.
