Mother's Day Headline Entertainment Booked

MEMPHIS, Tenn., March 1, 2012 – Springtime on the river is a special time as the azaleas are in full bloom and the Calliope of the steamboat American Queen can once again be heard off in the distance. The Great American Steamboat Company is highlighting its first Mother’s Day voyage with featured entertainment by Paul Revere & the Raiders, Gary Lewis & the Playboys and decadent Southern cuisine by Natchez’s favorite mom, the line’s Culinary Director, Chef Regina Charboneau.

-Cincinnati to Memphis Mother’s Day with Paul Revere and the Raiders-The seven-night Springtime on the River voyage from May 8-15, 2012, begins in Cincinnati, Ohio, and features performances by the ’60’s sensation Paul Revere & the Raiders in the American Queen Grand Saloon, a replica of Washington D.C.’s historical Ford’s Theatre. The band’s many hits include “Indian Reservation,” which topped the charts in 1971 as well as favorites heard on Dick Clark’s “Where the Action Is,” where they appeared on 520 episodes from 1965 to 1966.
Also taking the stage throughout the journey will be Gary Lewis & the Playboys performing ‘60’s pop classics including their first single and chart topper “This Diamond Ring.” The band, led by the son of comedian Jerry Lewis, promises to have favorites “Count Me In,” “Save Your Heart for Me” and “Everybody Loves a Clown” on the set list.
The first stop will be Madison, Ind., as guests will explore the Schroeder Saddletree Factory filled with antique machinery followed by a tour of The Lanier Mansion and the town’s historic district. The next day the American Queen will arrive in Louisville, Ky., where guests can enjoy one of the line’s signature hop-on-hop-off “Steamcoach” tours, which will take them to see the Muhammad Ali Center, Kentucky Museum of Arts & Crafts, the Louisville Slugger Museum and other highlights.
The following day, the American Queen will float down the Ohio River and arrive in Henderson, Ky., on day five. Home to John James Audubon, reminders of his famous bird painting are around every corner, along with turn-of-the-century mansions. The American Queen will tour Paducah, Ky., on a special Mother’s Day and explore its lively Lowertown Arts District, the renowned River Heritage Museum and of course the elegant displays at the Museum of the American Quilter’s Society.
Back onboard, Culinary Director Chef Regina Charboneau’s team will present a special menu that will make any mom onshore envious. Next, the steamboat pulls into New Madrid, Mo., where guests will board their “Steamcoach” and tour sites such as the Bessie Bend at the New Madrid Observation Deck and Hart-Stepp House Art Gallery.
