Spring Savings Have Sprung

Two of my favorite times of year are fall and spring. There’s something restful and restorative to watch the leaves change colors, the trees washed in shades of red, orange, yellow and gold as autumn works its magic. It’s beautiful yet somehow comforting to know that nature is preparing for the winter ahead

But it doesn’t take long for enjoyment of winter to turn into anticipation of spring. New life bursting forth is invigorating and refreshing. The leaves returning to the trees are a brilliant lime green like no other time of year. Flowers dot gardens, window boxes, pots and town squares with a dazzling array of colors. Begonias, tulips, pansies, snap dragons, roses, geraniums and petunias all make an appearance. Yellows, reds, pinks, purples, blues and whites are scattered across each town and city we visit as if they were planted in anticipation of our arrival. And the truth be told, in a few towns they are! The local community makes certain blooming flowers brighten up Main Street prior to a visit by the grand American Queen.

Why are thoughts of spring on my mind in early November? We actually have a special offer in place right now where you can receive up to a $400 travel credit by booking a spring 2013 voyage before December 31, 2012. It’s never too early to start thinking about spring. Or spring savings!

Join us for our April in Paris trip from New Orleans, LA to Memphis, TN on April 21, 2013. The Louisiana Territory was a French possession, named in honor of the King of France. Even after its 1803 purchase by the United States, the French influence was strong and remains to this day. Come aboard for a journey of joie de vivre as we explore the history, traditions, cuisine and spirit of France in the mansions, gardens and culture of the Lower Mississippi.

Our Louisiana History & Culture voyage roundtrip from New Orleans, LA on May 5, 2013 is always a big hit. The rich history of Louisiana comes alive as historians, music and cuisine take you deep into the heart of Cajun culture. The fiddle and the accordion will give you a lively dose of zydeco while in the kitchen Creole and Cajun dishes bubble with andouille sausage, okra, rice and the distinctive flavors of New Orleans. Learn the fascinating stories of the French speakers from Acadia in the Canadian Maritimes who brought their culture and love for life down South.

It ain’t the South without blues and barbecue! That’s the theme and the passion of our New Orleans, LA to Memphis, TN Blues & Barbecue journey on May 12, 2013. We merge two great traditions as we sail the Lower Mississippi, home of the best blues clubs and barbecue joints on earth. From the Nat King Cole Trio and Louis Jordan to Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder, your fingers will be snappin’ and your toes will be tappin’ as you savor falling-off-the-bone ribs, tender brisket and other smokehouse delights.

The one voyage our guests rave about because it’s always so much more than they ever expected is our May 26, 2013 Gardens of the River trip from New Orleans, LA to Memphis, TN. It embodies everything I love most about spring. A Southern garden is a thing of beauty so prepare to be amazed as you visit the finest along the Mississippi. Marvel at Rosedown in St. Francisville, Stanton Hall and Rosalie in Natchez, Dixon Gardens in Memphis and Long Vue House and Gardens in New Orleans. On board will be gardening experts and horticulturists who will share how you can bring a little bit of the South into your landscape back home.

Spring is a joyous time of year and always inspires me. The fresh air, warm breezes, cool nights and the re-emergence of all things colorful and beautiful from their winter slumber transforms one’s mood. The voyages mentioned above celebrate the best of spring in the South and I hope you’ll have the chance to join us.
