Avalon takes expeditions to the Amazon

Postby HostDave » Thu Apr 11, 2013 10:44 pm

Avalon Waterways has announced it will operate itineraries along the Amazon to Peru for the first time, with the introduction of an 11-day Peruvian adventure in the group’s new 2014 brochure.

Commencing February 2014, Avalon said it will operate its 45m and 16-suite Amazon explorer, Aria, designed specifically for cruising the South American river “in style”.

As part of the cruise, guests will venture into the Amazon jungle, visit indigenous communities, explore the ancient Andean city of Cusco and snap pictures of Machu Picchu.

Speaking in Sydney this week, Avalon Waterways marketing manager Australasia Christian Schweitzer said the additional cruise would offer cruisers more options and particularly give their repeat customers new choices.

According to Mr Schweitzer, Avalon Waterways has a high number of repeat customers as well as a 97-98 percent satisfaction rate amongst guests.

The marketing manager added that the 2014 brochure also includes an expanded selection of themed cruises including focus on beer tasting, golf, wellness and WW1 history as well as other based around art, food, wine and Jewish heritage.

Other additions for Avalon next year will also include the introduction of three new vessels – Avalon Impressions, Avalon Poetry II and Avalon Illumination – bringing the company’s total fleet of Suite Ship up to eight.

Meanwhile, Avalon Waterways managing director Stewart Williams said the Australian market has more than doubled for the cruise company in 2013 compared to 2010.
