New Orleans' first lady to name American Eagle

Postby HostDave » Wed Apr 08, 2015 1:33 pm

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu will be the guest of honor at American Cruise Lines' April 25 naming ceremony for its second Mississippi paddlewheeler, American Eagle. The mayor's wife, Cheryl Landrieu, is to serve as the godmother.

'The city of New Orleans has played an integral part in the growth of American Cruise Lines,' noted Judy Roman, vp of the line. 'With its rich history and deep culture, New Orleans is a favorite destination for our guests along the Mississippi River.'

Roman said American Eagle will 'raise the bar in US river cruising.'

The vessel carries 150 passengers in spacious staterooms that range from 300 square feet to 600 square feet. Seventy-eight of the 84 accommodations feature large private balconies, all with sliding glass doors for optimal views.

The modern and environmentally friendly American Eagle was designed to reflect the style of late 1800s riverboats. The vessel has elevator service to all decks, six lounges including the Sky Lounge, and a sun deck. Room service and refreshments are offered all day.

American Cruise Lines plans to operate the new paddlewheeler primarily on the Lower Mississippi between New Orleans and Memphis.
