American Cruise Lines names its new ship American Constellation

Postby HostDave » Fri May 20, 2016 9:56 pm

American Cruise Lines' newest ship, under construction at Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Maryland, has been given a historic name, American Constellation. Currently nine weeks ahead of schedule, the 170-passenger vessel will be delivered in April 2017.

The name was inspired by the long line of US ships named Constellation. The link between the USS Constellation and American Constellation is stronger than the name. The original US Navy sailing frigate of 1797 and the American Cruise Lines ship were both built in Maryland yards, and American Constellation will leave for its first cruise from Baltimore’s Constellation Pier, next to where the retired USS Constellation is docked.

'We’re proud to continue our legacy of American-built ships, and are positive that American Constellation will raise the bar for all small ship cruising in the United States,' said Tim Beebe, vp of American Cruise Lines.

The ocean-capable vessel, with full active wing stabilization, will offer well-appointed staterooms with balconies and butler-delivered room service. Additional features will include Zodiacs and kayaks.
