GUILFORD, CT – June 13, 2012 – American Cruise Lines (www.americancruiselines.com) announced today that its inaugural season in Alaska aboard the American Spirit has begun, with its opening 11-night Seattle-to-Juneau cruise having just been successfully completed. Weekly roundtrip cruises from Juneau will now run through early September.

The inaugural cruise was extremely well received by guests who were the first to enjoy Alaska in the comfort, elegance and intimacy of the American Spirit, the newest small ship in Alaska. While onboard, they encountered towering glaciers at close range and spotted wildlife including humpback whales, brown bears and bald eagles. Guests also enjoyed the company and insight of an onboard Alaskan expert and naturalist, offering daily lecturers and presentations on Alaska’s history, culture and natural wonders. Guests were greeted by the port towns, with a special welcoming event planned on Sunday’s inaugural visit to Alaska’s famed Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. In partnership with Huna Totem Corporation, guests were welcomed to Glacier Bay by Cultural Heritage Guides who shared traditional Tlingit songs, stories, history and their modern way of life.

Featuring a complimentary shore tour package and pre-cruise hotel stay, the seven-night Alaska Inside Passage roundtrip cruises will depart from and return to Juneau. Ports of call include Glacier Bay, Icy Strait/Hoonah, Skagway, Petersburg and Tracy Arm. The American Spirit offers a full range of onboard amenities, including an elevator to all decks, numerous glass-enclosed lounges and oversized staterooms, the majority of which have private balconies which offer unobstructed views of the Alaskan scenery. The ship is specially designed to navigate calm, narrow inland waterways like those of the Inside Passage, with an intimate and refined onboard atmosphere perfect for guests who seek enriching travels and share their passion for exploration, adventure and discovery.

“Our guests will enjoy an unsurpassed and intimate Alaskan experience that is only available aboard the American Spirit,” said Paul Taiclet, American Cruise Lines’ Vice President of Hotel Operations. “Offering an up-close and truly personalized journey on the newest and most elegant small ship in Alaska is a winning combination that will leave our guests with only the fondest memories. We look forward to a successful season.”
