Viking plans to christen 14 Longships in Avignon festivities

Postby HostDave » Tue Nov 12, 2013 5:10 pm

Another one for the record book?

Viking Cruises, which is building 14 Longships to enter service in 2014, plans to christen them all during a celebration in Avignon, France, in March.

This would top the company's own world record, set in March this year when Viking named 10 ships during festivities in Amsterdam. World record keeper Guinness allowed eight of the vessels to count since two of the 10 had entered service in 2012, but without an official naming ceremony.

Four of the ships christened were in Amsterdam (where two additional Longships were on hand for a total of six), and six were in Rostock and named remotely.

Viking continues to top itself. By the end of next year, the company will have introduced a total of 30 new river ships in a breathtaking three-year period.

The 14 new vessels in 2014 will sail Viking’s most popular itineraries in Europe. Each Longship accommodates 190 passengers in 95 staterooms.
