EUROPA 2: New Onboard Show Program Announced

Postby HostDave » Mon Sep 16, 2013 3:35 pm

-- Three stage shows created exclusively for the EUROPA 2
-- A combination of video and software art with lighting effects, music, dance and drama
-- Cooperation with the Berlin production company "Phase 7"

The entertainment programme on board the modern and casual luxury ship, the EUROPA 2, which has been awarded the highest distinction of “five-stars-plus” by the 2014 Berlitz Cruise Guide, continues to offer new innovations for guests. Three stage shows created exclusively for the EUROPA 2 by the Berlin production company “Phase 7” are currently running in the on-board theatre which covers two floors/decks. At their heart, these shows combine spectacular lighting effects, video and software art with music, dance and drama. The ensemble, consisting of ten artists, presents two shows per week.

“Symphony for a Ship” is a production, which focuses on the EUROPA 2 and the story of its creation. The production combines musical sophistication, dancing skill and fascinating video aesthetics. Inspired by the beauty and design of the ship, the “Phase 7” artists have created a contemporary performance for all to see, especially on the eight-by-six-metre LED wall in the ship’s theatre. The video artists provide exclusive insights from the creative perspective of their art, including into the construction phase of the EUROPA 2.

“de-light – the Appearance and Disappearance of Light” features futuristic images and interactive multimedia features. This cross-media performance illuminates the diversity and attractiveness of light on the human individual and examines the interaction between light and darkness. The software, which uses video images of the dancers to analyse their movements and convert them into sound or associated images in real time has an extraordinary effect. If a dancer enters a predefined area on the stage and touches the marked elements, sounds, or images are triggered. Other technology aesthetically transforms the video images and projects them onto the bodies of the performers. This means, for example, that a dancer can dance live with a multitude of her/his own delayed shadows.

The third show, developed for the EUROPA 2, is a theatrical adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s famous story, “The Canterville Ghost”. The performance takes place in complete darkness. Sleeping masks will help listeners to intensify their senses, allowing for an extraordinary encounter with the Canterville house.

Cruise example:
MS EUROPA 2 – new stage shows from “Phase 7” will feature on the Mediterranean cruise from 26 October 2013 to 2 November 2013 (7 days) from Piraeus to Limassol via Nauplia/Peloponnese, Agios Nikolaos/Crete, Rhodes/Dodecanese, Antalya and Paphos, from € 4,180 (GBP 3,270, USD 5,020) per person, cruise-only.
